Monthly Money Review Template

Use this checklist to review income, bills, spending, debt, savings, and Safe To Spend before the next month begins.

This template is for organization and planning. It does not make financial guarantees and does not replace professional advice.

Income review

  • List all expected income sources for the month.
  • Check whether each payment landed or is still pending.
  • Remove one-time income you should not count on next month.

Bills review

  • List required bills and recurring obligations.
  • Mark anything due before the next paycheck.
  • Flag any bill that increased or was missed.

Spending review

  • Review groceries, fuel, eating out, shopping, and other everyday spending.
  • Spot categories that went over plan.
  • Note spending that should be reduced next month.

Debt payment review

  • List required minimums and planned extra debt payments.
  • Confirm which payments cleared.
  • Identify any debt that is putting pressure on cash flow.

Savings review

  • Check planned savings goals for the month.
  • Confirm what was actually set aside.
  • Decide whether savings targets need to be adjusted before more spending.

Safe To Spend review

  • Use the Safe To Spend formula after income, bills, spending, debt, and savings are reviewed together.
  • Compare the result to how the month actually felt.
  • Use the number as a planning signal, not a financial guarantee.

Fix This First review

  • Pick the biggest money pressure point from this month.
  • Choose one category to fix before making new spending decisions.
  • Write one concrete action for the next month.
